The Niti Valley is situated to the east of the Mana Valley in the hinterland of Joshimath. Niti, located at an elevation of 3,600 m, is the most important village of the valley. To the north of this village is the Niti Pass (5,800 m) leading to southern Tibet. The region receives heavy snowfall.

The inhabitants of the valley move from their alternative villages (which are in the lower range of Himalayas) to the valley during summer and stay in the valley from April to October. All kind of traditional rituals are performed during this period of stay by the community.

How to Reach

Distance between Joshimath and Last village "Niti" is around 87 Km by motor road (around 2.5 hours). One can reach and take accommodation at Joshimath. Nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport on Rishikesh-Dehardun Road at 352 KM. Nearest railway stations are Dehradun (378KM) and Haridwar (361KM).

Permissions for Tourist

No permission required to visit the valley except the last village “Niti”. To visit Niti village, one need permission from SDM, Joshimath. Most of the villages (Lata, Raini Jhelam, Malari, Kosa, Kailashpur, Farkiya, Bampa & Gamshali) are on the way to Niti. ITBP Check Post is at Gamshali Village which is just 2.5Km before Niti village.

Accommodation for Tourist   

There is no hotels available for tourist. This valley was not explored by tourist in past. Earlier permission was required to visit the valley. Only locals were allowed to stay in this villages. Now no permission required to visit the valley except the last village “Niti”. However, new government guest house is built in the valley at Gamshali. One can reach and take hotel accommodation at Joshimath and plan for trip to valley.
